12mo, 117pp, many superb plates. Fine in dj. This charming work is very evocative of the social conditions of the time. Among other anecdotes is the fact that Thornton and his staff ate the scraps off of the plates of Wellington and his officers (Johnson's dictionary--compiled less than fifty years earlier-- contains a word, 'groak' meaning one who stands nearby and watches you eat, hoping there'll be something left over for him!). Quite good.
