228pp, illus. Fine in dj. One of the great 'characters' of the age, Wilson ended up decorated by nearly every government in Europe except his own. He served with the British expedition to Egypt in 1800, and his book on the campaign made the false charge that Napoleon had poisoned 20,000 prisoners at Jaffa, a calumny the Emperor was denying the rest of his life; fought with the Russian army at Friedland, and was present at Tilsit; organized the Loyal Lusitanian Legion during the Peninsular War; was Allied Liaison with Kutuzov's troops during the Russian Campaign; fought in many of the battles 1813-1814. After the Second Restoration, he helped Lavalette escape the Bourbon executioners, and spent some months in a French prison as a result. A colorful Life! Scarce.
