Scion of a famous military family, Napier (50th Foot) was wounded and captured at Corunna; fought at Ciudad Rodrigo, the Coa, Busaco, Torres Vedras, Almeida, Sabugal, Fuentes d'Onoro, etc. He served in America during the War of 1812, and Greece during its War of Independence.
