1 Rose, John Holland (ed). NAPOLEON'S LAST VOYAGES: BEING THE DIARY OF SIR THOMAS USSHER, R.N., K.C.B.(ON BOARD THE 'UNDAUNTED') AND JOHN R. GLOVER, SECRETARY TO REAR ADMIRAL COCKBURN (ON BOARD THE 'NORTHUMBERLAND').
London Fisher Unwin 1895 First edition
203pp, 8 plates. Original gilt cloth, vg+ copy. Two very amusing journals. Ussher, describing a stop at Capraja island, where the French garrison was still unaware of the Emperor's abdication: 'Napoleon held a long conversation with the members of the delegation, who expressed the utmost surprise at finding their Emperor aboard a British Man-of-War.'(!!) Glover too has many interesting observations to make about Napoleon and his entourage, whose 'servility is more abject than an Englishman who has not witnessed it can possibly conceive.'
