1 Anglesey. ONE-LEG: THE LIFE AND LETTERS OF HENRY WILLIAM PAGET, FIRST MARQUESS OF ANGLESEY, K.G., 1768-1854.
New York Morrow 1961 First Edition
428pp, illus. Fine in lightly scuffed dj. Paget had a long, distinguished career as a diplomat, and was one of the best cavalry commanders of the age. His charge at Mayorga has been described by Oman as 'perhaps the most brilliant exploit of the British cavalry during the whole six years of the war.' He served with distinction in the early stages of the Peninsular War, but a family quarrel with the Wellesleys resulting from his elopement with Henry Wellesley's wife cost him his command. He was reinstated in time for Waterloo, where he lost a leg.
