2 Vols: lxvii+391pp, xii+441pp. 24 color plates, 230 b&w. VG++ original gilt red cloth, spines lightly faded, 1/4 inch tear to top of spine on volume II. Contents fine and fresh. The Napoleonic Wars were the first golden age of political cartooning, and it is not too much to say that the vicious lampoons of artists like Gillray, Cruikshank, and Rowlandson affected the course of history. Napoleon's rage at the British government's failure to suppress these attacks was a significant factor in the breakdown of the Peace of Amiens. Scarce, delightful book.
